16.09.2026, Bengaluru: The BDA Apartment Owners Forum has conducted a survey across 15 BDA apartment projects to understand the readiness and demand for community EV charging infrastructure and the growing adoption of electric vehicles among residents.
The survey was structured across two levels. The community-level assessment sought to understand the readiness and availability of EV charging infrastructure across BDA apartment projects. The individual-level assessment focused on EV ownership, current charging practices, challenges faced by EV owners and future EV purchase intent.
The findings indicate that majority of surveyed residents already own an EV, while community charging infrastructure remains absent. Only one of the 15 projects currently has operational community EV charging , while other projects either do not have charging infrastructure.
The survey clearly indicates that EV adoption is already happening within BDA apartment communities. However, one of the biggest challenges is the lack of adequate EV charging infrastructure, which impacts both current EV owners and residents who are considering making the switch to electric vehicles. The survey makes it evident that residents are ready for convenient community charging infrastructure. We also request the Bangalore Development Authority to extend the necessary approvals and permissions wherever required, particularly in projects that continue to remain under BDA control. With the support of BDA, residents and service providers, we can make BDA apartment communities EV-ready and future-ready.
We now invite EV charging service providers and infrastructure companies to partner with BDA apartment communities and come forward with suitable proposals for deployment.

Key findings:
- 61% of surveyed residents already own an EV, indicating significant EV adoption within the participating BDA communities.
- Among EV-owning households, 70% have an electric 2-wheeler only, 20% have both electric 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers, and 10% have an electric 4-wheeler only.
- Community charging infrastructure remains a significant gap. Only one of the 15 projects surveyed currently has operational community EV charging infrastructure,
- 41% of EV owners currently depend on public or commercial charging stations, while only 11% have a dedicated charger at their parking space.
- The biggest challenge reported by EV owners is the lack of a dedicated charging point, followed by non-availability of closed parking and distance between meter boards and parking slots
- The existing EV ecosystem is led by brands such as Ather, Ola, TVS, Hero/Vida and Tata, based on brand mentions in the survey responses.
